  • Fire Safety

    Plan for fire prevention and control including inspections, training, drills, and equipment. Outlines procedure for responding to alarms and obtaining fire department assistance. Requires annual review by a qualified outside inspector, quarterly drills and equipment tests, monthly inspection by the Fire/Life Safety Deputy, and weekly inspection by a staff member.

  • Santa Rita Jail Fire Procedures Description and Location of Equipment

    Policy describes fire-fighting equipment — including fire alarm handles, fire hose cabinets/racks, fire extinguishers, ansul fire protection systems, automatic halon protection systems, and breathing apparatuses — their location and required periodic inspections.

  • Emergency Panic Alarms/Response

    Policy describing location and use of Emergency Panic Alarm System by staff in response to an escape attempt, assault, or other safety threat. Not intended for most medical emergencies and minor incidents between inmates. Anticipates communication with Sheriff’s Dispatch and the Homeland Security in “urgent, special, unusual’ situations.

  • Disturbance/Riot and Hunger Strike

    Procedure for controlling and de-escalating disturbances. Identifies good communication, inmate morale, even-handed discipline, and responsiveness to complaints as preventative conditions. Outlines procedure for facility lockdown and requires that inmates on hunger strike for more than 24-hours receive medical monitoring.

  • Civil Disturbances

    Procedure for dealing with a civil disturbance on county property adjacent to the facility. Any threats will be videotaped and reported to the Eden Township Substation and surrounding police agencies.

  • Bomb Threat and Explosions

    Procedure for responding to bomb threats, including taking no action, searching without evacuating, or evacuating and searching. Explosives found will be handled by an outside Explosive Ordnance Disposal team. Forbids the use of radio communication during bomb search.

  • Earthquake Procedure

    Procedure for responding to life-threatening earthquakes and aftershocks. Requires that all personnel administer required first aid. Evacuated areas are to be re-opened only when damage has been repaired.

  • Hazardous Substance Program

    Policy for handling and disposing of hazardous or infectious waste through labeling, training (during orientation and annually), restricting access, and maintaining up-to-date products inventory on Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Medical staff are responsible for disposing of all contaminated medical waste and used protective kits.

  • Power Failure

    Procedure for power failures, allowing for the maintenance of essential lights, power, communications, and life-sustaining functions. Requires that generators be tested weekly and all other emergency systems be tested at least quarterly, with records kept by facility maintenance personnel.

  • Medical Unit Disaster Response

    Procedure to relocate, evacuate, and/or treat inmates and staff in accordance with the ACSO Jail Disaster Plan. Requires that disaster protocols be exercised at least annually and that all medical personnel be on “standby” during disasters. Outlines triaging location and systems.
